Ukraine nationals in Ukraine

Situations where they can apply for visas in Ukraine

Ukraine nationals are visa exempt if they hold a biometric passport. As  visa exempt persons they can stay in Austria and in the Schengen are for 90 days in a period of 180 days.

Ukraine nationals not holding a biometric passport require a visa to enter Austria. Visa services at the consular mission have been suspended.

If Ukraine nationals reach Austria they may seek international protection.

Non-Ukraine nationals in Ukraine

Situations where they can apply for visas in Ukraine

Non-Ukraine nationals who are visa exempt nationals can enter and stay in Austria and in the Schengen are for 90 days in a period of 180 days.

Non-Ukraine nationals, being visa nationals, need to get in touch with the Austrian consular mission in Kiev. Visa services at the consular mission have been suspended.

If they cannot apply for visas in Ukraine, alternative options

If non-Ukraine nationals reach Austria they may be able to seek international protection. 

Ukraine nationals in Destination Country

Options

Ukraine nationals in Austria on existing visas should continue to ensure they meet the conditions of those visas and the conditions for visa extension.

If the extension of the visa is not possible, they may seek international protection.

Other considerations

As of March 2, 2022, Ukrainian nationals are being offered temporary protection that will start immediately, across the EU, and last for one year. If the situation persists, this period will be automatically extended twice by six monthly periods for up to one year. This temporary protection means; 1. Residency Rights, 2. Access to the labor market subject to Member States’ labor market policies, 3. Access to housing, 4. Social Welfare, 5. Medical or other assistance, and 6. Unaccompanied children and teenagers are entitled to legal guardianship and access to education.
