Any special considerations

The Swiss embassy has suspended operations, including visa processing, until further notice. A telephone emergency helpline remains operational.

If they cannot apply for visas in Ukraine, alternative options

Alternative options would need to be evaluated on a individual basis, as no formal alternative instructions have been posted to date.

Non-Ukraine nationals in Ukraine

Situations where they can apply for visas in Ukraine

Not applicable to visa waiver nationals (e.g. U.S., Japan, Australia).

No special provisions put in place for visa nationals.

Any special considerations

The Swiss embassy has suspended operations, including visa processing, until further notice. A telephone helpline remains operational.

If they cannot apply for visas in Ukraine, alternative options

In cases where travel to the home or a third country is not an option, application for a visa on humanitarian grounds (highly restrictive admission criteria) may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Ukraine nationals in Destination Country

Options

The Swiss Federal Commission for Migration (EKM) suggested to the federal council to grant “S” status to vulnerable persons from Ukraine.
This would provide eligible persons protected status for the duration of the conflict, without needing to complete a formal asylum procedure.

Approval by the federal council and implementation of this suggested measure is currently pending.

Other considerations

Persons under S status would be eligible to apply for work authorization and family reunion for their dependents under a facilitated process.

Approval by the federal council and implementation of this suggested measure is currently pending.
